SRINWANTI CHAKRABARTI ------ A danseuse par excellence.

Srinwanti Chakrabarti is an internationally acclaimed Indian classical dancer, innovative choreographer and dance educator, pursuing the genre of Odissi in the gharana of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra for last twenty years. Srinwanti is the founder and artistic director of Srijati – A Centre for Art and Culture, an institute in Calcutta which has conducted extensive training and research in Odissi since 2000, while trying to reinvent it by introducing elements from theatre and contemporary dance keeping its aesthetics and form intact. Srinwanti is also a postgraduate in Sociology and has experimented with the use and application of dance movements for therapeutic services. However, Srinwanti’s main dedication is to the rhythms of Odissi which has become vibrations of her life. As a solo artist and also along with her dance troupe, Srinwanti has performed widely throughout India. Srinwanti has also regularly given series of dance performances, conducted workshops, lecture demonstrations and presented her choreographic works in England and has performed in U.S.A., Canada and Italy. Her performances and choreographies have received high appreciation from critics all over. She is now based in Paris.
