OFFSEASON //// CINE-NOISE //// EN PIRE //// SYNDROME WPW
[OFFSEASON]
In the spring of 2007, Hiko of GAUZE, Atsuhiro Ito of
OPTRUM, and Kuro Pipe Stardust of KURO PIPE started a band
OFFSEASON. While rejecting to be impounded by any ongoing
music genres, OFFSASON tries to retroact their music to
the origins of the music of which they respect by putting
themselves in practice or more specifically as a movement.
Consequently, this concept has exhibited extremely unique
acoustical space. It is because of the unexpected and
quick changes of their performance and the continuous
emission of every beats and parts of the melodies
transmitted through its megavolume and visual flickers,
spawned by enormous amount of OFFSEASON
'S heat quantity.
OFFSEASON also actively sessions with other musicians.
Yoshida Ami (howling voice performer), Kazunao Nagata and
Naoki Nomoto (both of them are analog synthesizer players)
had joined and made significant sessions.
Since OFFSEASON started, they have self-organized event
'Rotten Room' in non-regular basis at the established
chanson house called
'Blue Room', introducing many of domestic and
international radical musicians.
In addition, the band's name OFFSEASON is borrowed from
Jack Ketchum
's same titled novel which continuously portrayed
unbelievable spectacles, set in the summer resort of
Maine, the US.

[Atsuhiro Ito (Optron, etc)]
Born in 1965.
Atsuhiro Ito launched his career as a visual artist in the
late 1980s, and in 1998 began presenting sound
performances at art exhibitions, most notably using a
musical device of his own invention, the optron.
A fluorescent light tube stuffed with small microphones,
when played like a guitar and plugged into an amplifier,
the optron generates both epileptic noises and flickering
lights to create a truly audio-visual experience. He
continues to refine the instrument while approaching sound
and music from a contemporary-art-based perspective.
In addition to his solo exhibition and performance
projects, Ito is active in a number of musical units.
(Optrum, Kazuo Imai Trio, OFFSEASON, etc...)
In between 2000 to 2005, Ito presented various sound
(music)/visual image-related events at Off Site, the
now-defunct gallery/free space in Yoyogi, Tokyo.
